The Amazon Fresh store at 325 East Palatine Road in Arlington Heights has adopted the exterior styling of an Amazon Fresh store over the past two weeks, as construction workers have completed some of the final touches on the exterior facade up front from the store during the last week of November and the first week of December 2021.
The first interior demolition works, a new roof and the preparation for the construction of a new Amazon Fresh store started a year ago (October and November 2020) in the Town & Country sales area of the old store Dominick’s, but the purpose of the construction work was not initially confirmed by authorities. Last year, a representative from the Village of Arlington Heights Building & Life Safety Department confirmed that the space at 325 East Palatine Road had a permit for demolition, but said there was no known company preparing for it. occupy space.
By November 20, 2021, it was clear that the Amazon Fresh grocery store was nearing completion. Vertical food crates with shelves and glass doors were placed in the aisles inside the store.
In December 2020, an unnamed grocery store at 325 East Palatine Road was announced by the Village of Arlington Heights. A nondisclosure agreement banned the announcement in December 2020 that the store was an Amazon Fresh store, but the December 2020 announcement revealed that the store’s scheduled opening for the unnamed grocery store was June 2022.
For months before the “grand opening” of a set of the country’s first Amazon Fresh stores, each store functioned as a “dark store” that filled orders, but did not allow the public to shop inside the store. store. This was apparently Amazon’s adaptation to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. It is not known at this time whether the Arlington Heights store will initially open as a “Dark Store”.
