SAVE 45%: A solid budget choice for Amazon enthusiasts, the Fire HD 8 Plus tablet is on sale for just $59.99(opens in a new tab) to August 22. That’s $50 off its usual MSRP of $109.99.

The iPad isn’t the only tablet in town. If you’re an Amazon enthusiast, consider the Fire HD 8 Plus instead. It works well with other Amazon services and it’s much easier on your wallet, especially on sale.

Starting August 22, you can grab the Fire HD 8 Plus tablet(opens in a new tab) for just $59.99 on Amazon. It’s 45% off its regular price of $109.99.

The Fire HD 8 Plus performs best as a pure streaming and Kindle machine. It’s about the same size as an iPad mini with an eight-inch 1280 x 800 display and supports Amazon’s Appstore. (It doesn’t support Google Play or Apple’s App Store.) According to Mashable tech reporter Alex Perry, it doesn’t really work well with third-party apps, and overall performance is relatively poor. But if you rely on Amazon for literature, entertainment, and retail, it performs respectably.

The best tablets to buy for your child

You’ll get up to half a day of battery life, which is definitely enough to read, stream, and shop at your leisure. The HD 8 Plus supports wireless charging (unlike its sibling either) and has an upgraded 3GB of RAM. Otherwise, the HD 8 and HD 8 Plus(opens in a new tab) are the same.

One feature we particularly like about the Fire tablets: you can use them hands-free with Alexa. Even if it’s on standby, the HD 8 Plus will recognize your voice prompts – tell it to pull recipes, stream A league apartlisten to your morning playlist, video chat with your mom, and more.
