Etsy sellers should be notified to delay shipping orders.
As you know, 2022 has seen an increase in the number of order cancellations by Etsy for “unauthorized purchase”.
TO (redacted time of day) on May 12, 2022, I received an email from Etsy telling me that I had made a sale, that the buyer had paid through Etsy Payments, and that I had to ship by May 16, 2022.
TO (redacted time of day, which is 27 minutes after Etsy notifies seller of order and payment) on May 12, 2022, I marked the order as shipped and posted it to a post office. (I didn’t have anything else that day, so it was an exceptionally fast turnaround – I thought that was what Etsy wanted.) I have the shipping email.
TO (exact time redacted, which is 6 hours after Etsy notifies seller of order and buyer’s payment) on May 12, 2022, Etsy sent me an email stating that they had canceled the order and refunded it from my payment account for “unauthorized purchase”.
This money should never have been taken from my account because I had fully respected the terms of my contract with Etsy and fulfilled the contract.
I contacted Etsy via chat, called back and emailed to try and get my money back and sent them proof of postage which had been obtained from a UK post office. This lost a few hours although their response times have improved significantly this year.
To date they haven’t refunded me, even though it only happened yesterday.
I have a notice on my Etsy dashboard suggesting I update my processing times because I processed orders earlier than expected. In fact, due to the above, I will delay shipping for at least 24 hours to wait and see if Etsy cancels future orders.
All sellers must wait 24 hours before shipping Etsy orders or risk losing money.
It looks like Etsy is doing the opposite of Amazon and trying to slow down shipping times!
If you post any of this, please do not include any information that could identify me as I fear repercussions from Etsy.
