How to Change the Shipping Address on an Amazon Order

Amazon has been around for over 28 years, so some of us have account histories dating back to the 90s. Maybe you’ve moved once or twice during that time while shipping Christmas and birthday gifts to different friends and family across the country (and probably a Pixel 7 for yourself). Considering all of this, you’ve probably saved more than a few addresses to your Amazon account. It wouldn’t be hard to accidentally choose the wrong one at checkout. But you can save the situation with just a few clicks.

How to change your delivery address

You can change the shipping address for your Amazon order at any time as long as Amazon is delivering the package and has not entered the shipping process. So if you choose same day shipping, your window to change the shipping address is small. If you choose two-day or no-rush shipping, you’ll have a bit more time to act.

For Amazon delivery

  1. Log in to your Amazon account.
  2. Navigate to the Your Orders page.
  3. Find the order for which you want to change the delivery address.
  4. Click on View or edit order Where View more details.
  5. Under the current delivery address, select To change.
  6. Find the address you want to ship to.
  7. Click on Send to this address.
  8. Confirm your credit card information and billing address. Once this is taken care of, your shipping information is updated.

You cannot change your shipping information through the Amazon app.

For delivery by a third party

If you ordered something from a third-party seller, you may need to contact the seller directly to change the order details.

  1. Go to the Your Orders page.
  2. Find the order you want to edit.
  3. Click on View or edit order Where View more details.
  4. Click on the vendor name next to the product image.
  5. Select ask a question on the right of the page.
  6. A new window opens with a chatbot that walks you through sending a message to the seller.

If you need to change your Amazon delivery destination after the shipping process has begun, your sole remedy is to cancel your order and re-order.

How to change your payment method and other order details

Changing your shipping address is a useful feature, but until your order ships, you can update other aspects of your purchase as needed. Maybe you ordered a gift on the wrong card and don’t want your partner to see the details. If so, changing the payment method is a quick and easy process.

On the desk

  1. Navigate to the Your Orders page.
  2. Find the order you want to edit and click View or edit order Where View more details.
  3. Select Change payment method to the right of the command.
  4. Choose the new payment method you want to use.
  5. Verify your payment information, then click Check the map.
  6. When you are done, select Continue to return to the Order Details page.
  7. On the details of the order page, change your shipping speed, add gift options, archive your order or cancel it. You only have these options if your order has not entered the shipping process.

On mobile

To change the order payment on mobile, follow the same steps.

  1. Go to your orders and select the order you want to edit.
  2. Scroll down a bit and tap View or edit this command.
  3. Scroll down and select your Payment method.
  4. Select your new payment method.

Even though the layout of this page on mobile is a bit different from the browser version, it still has the same functionality.

How to manage your addresses

It’s a good idea to go through your Amazon address book once in a while and clean things up, especially if you’ve moved or the people you’re sending gifts to have moved, and things are getting cluttered. Keeping this list tidy can minimize transport accidents. Here’s how to get rid of those old addresses:

Delete an address

  1. Hover over it Account and Lists button and click Account.
  2. Scroll to Ordering and purchasing preferences section and select Your addresses.
  3. Find the address you want to remove and click Remove at the bottom of the address card.
  4. On the Confirm deletion pop-up window, select Yes.

Add an address

If you’re removing addresses because you or someone you know has moved, you’ll want to add a new address.

  1. Go to your account page and navigate to Your addresses.
  2. Click on Add address in the upper left corner.
  3. Enter the new address information.
  4. Select Add address basically.

On mobile

You can also manage your addresses from the mobile app:

  1. Access your account page through the profile page or the navigation page.
  2. Scroll to Account settings section and press Your addresses.

From there, the process for managing your addresses is the same as on the Amazon website. While you’re here, select a default address so there’s less chance of sending a package to the wrong place in the future.

If you receive a package that you wanted to send somewhere else, don’t forget about Amazon Hub. You can return your order to one of hundreds of lockers and counters, then use your Amazon Prime delivery benefits to expedite its delivery to the correct destination.
