This review of the unsolved Beverly Lynn Smith murder is spoiler-free.

Amazon released a true crime documentary series The unsolved murder of Beverly Lynn Smith. Over the course of 4 episodes, lasting around 40 minutes each, we are embarked on a journey of investigation, which essentially tries to bring a specific man to justice. Much like the series we know on Netflix, Amazon jumps on the true-crime bandwagon with this in-depth and hard-hitting investigation into the gruesome murder of Beverly Lynn Smith.

Directed by Nathalie Bibeau, known for Morse and the whistler, this Amazon original docuseries dives deep into the operation that was designed to investigate a suspect in the murder of 22-year-old Beverly Lynn Smith. This raised more and more questions, which created a quest for justice that spanned decades.

With a 10-month-old baby (who was there at the time of the murder) and her husband, Beverly Lynn Smith lived on a farm in Ontario. On December 9, 1974, she was murdered in the kitchen of her house. Alan Smith (no relation), his friendly neighbor, has been a central figure in the investigation since the night of the murder nearly 50 years ago, and he has always maintained his innocence. Despite investigations and widespread media coverage, and Alan’s years in prison, there were so many stories that Mr. Smith was eventually released on a technicality. 50 years later, there is still no justice, and I doubt there ever will be.

This series goes beyond crime and dives into the pursuit of justice. In a format similar to most true crime series, we have interviews with investigators, family members, friends, crime reporters and lawyers who all tell their experiences, opinions and experiences. personal feelings about what happened and what they think happened. There are re-enactments and audio sequences that drive the story and the imagination forward.

There are two stories in this series, one of the girl who was tragically murdered and the story of the man who was accused of murdering her. Alan Smith, the defendant, is himself in the documentary, claiming he is innocent, although a recording at the end of the first episode will send shivers down your spine. Also, in episode three, Mr. Smith and his ex-wife Linda confidently accept a lie detector test, and the results indicate that he shot Beverly and Linda knew what had happened. . This documentary has twists, turns and multiple stories throughout and I had to keep watching to see how this story ended. By all the stories, the police methods, did Alan make a real and true confession or was he coerced? Take a look and decide for yourself.

Overall, this series is an intriguing watch. Again, we have another woman killed, most likely by the hands of a man, and abandoned by the society around her. Either the police really focused on convicting the first person wanted and didn’t really investigate and find their real killer, or a judge felt there wasn’t enough evidence to convict a real killer. . Anyway, wWhat happened to Beverly is truly horrific and I hope her loved ones will feel comfortable telling her story to the masses. No matter how many of these true crime documentaries I watch, I haven’t become desensitized because the families are still so affected and emotional, even decades after the event. You will enjoy this documentary if you are into a true crime series and need to watch an intense and informative series.

There are a lot of swear words in this series. Just in case you as a viewer don’t like this or plan to watch with younger audiences, I’ll warn you there’s a lot of swearing.
