Undefeated Russian featherweight Shamil Gasanov made his ONE Championship debut, opening the ONE main card on Prime Video 3 on Friday night against No. 2 ranked featherweight contender Kim Jae Woong.
The event took place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Kim faced a tough task as he faced the 12-0 Gasanov. With eight incredible submissions in his professional MMA career, Gasanov has sought to make a memorable impression on ONE fans watching around the world on Amazon Prime Video.
Both fighters came out for the contest, looking to pit themselves against each other. 90 seconds later, Gasonov fired for a takedown, slamming Kim to the mat and immediately taking his back.
From there, it was only a matter of seconds before the Russian debutante locked her arm under Kim’s chin, forcing the tap at 2:09 of the very first lap.
Gasanov was nothing short of spectacular on his ONE Championship debut. He seemed to be very light on his feet and more than able to stand, but like many Russian fighters, they prefer to play on the ground and they do it very well.
With a dominating victory over the No. 2 ranked featherweight, Shamil Gasanov will undoubtedly have a number next to his name next week.
Shamil Gasanov wins $50,000 bonus for quick submission from Kim Jae Woong
Following his epic ONE Championship debut on ONE on Prime Video 3, Shamil Gasanov was joined by Mitch Chilson inside the circle to talk about his dominating win over Kim Jae Woong.
When asked what he thought of his performance, Gasanov said:
“Everyone smash! Everywhere! Just give me five minutes. That’s all I need.”
When asked if he plans to dominate the No. 2 ranked featherweight in the division, Gasanov revealed that his brother gave him a unique challenge before entering the circle on Friday night:
“My brother is here. You said you have two minutes. If you don’t submit it in two minutes, you will walk home.
Shamil Gasanov didn’t quite reach the two-minute mark, submitting Kim Jae Woong at 2:09 of the first round, but maybe his brother will show some mercy after finding out that the performance of Gasanov earned him a $50,000 bonus from the ONE Championship. CEO.
