If you thought The boys‘adult superheroes behaved like spoiled brats, just wait until real the spoiled brats get their hands made up of V juice on an Amazon show all their own. Fresh off the bonkers mainline series, the recently aired Season 3 finale, the streamer has just revealed the official title of its upcoming spin-off series featuring college-aged Supes, along with a fun debut from the cast of what’s in store.
Gen V is the name of the upcoming spin-off, which follows the chaotic exploits of lucky young adults handpicked by Vought International to attend the world’s only college for V-powered heroes. fall 2020 reveal of the show’s big name was accompanied this week by a one-on-one with the cast, who hit Twitter with a video message sharing enthusiastic first impressions of what The boys‘ a built-in legion of streaming fans can expect. you can check it here.
Fundamentally, Generation V looks just like you’d hoped: take Homelander’s dangerously unbalanced mood swings and The Deep’s libidinous appetite for weird, watery sex, add a bit of Black Noir’s end-stage giveaway for sulky psychedelic fantasy , then crank it all up to 11 inside the unstable minds and bodies of energized teenagers. In other words, as actor Maddie Phillips says in the clip, expect “lots of hormones, drama and mystery.”
“He has got everything The boys a – intensity, courage, humor “, Generation V star Asa Germann teases, while co-star Chance Perdomo remains refreshingly simple: “It’s screwed; You’ll like it!” Believe us – after seeing what the adults manage to pull off in Season 3’s “Herogasm” episode, we don’t doubt it for a second.
Although Amazon has yet to reveal any Generation V character names (not to mention the role each actor will play), the spin-off aims to tap into all of the gory, gonzo comic DNA of its hit comic book-based predecessor. It is an “irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonally competitive Supes as they test their physical, sexual and moral limits, competing for the best contracts in the best cities” , teases Amazon’s synopsis. “It’s partly a college show, partly hunger games – with all the heart, satire and torpor of The boys.”
From the same key creative team that propelled the main series to the top of Amazon’s Watchlist, Generation V is led by The boys development mastermind Eric Kripke, and counts series executive producing veterans Kripke Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and original comic book creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson among its seasoned stable of EPs. Going through Varietythe show is produced by Sony Pictures Television Studios and Amazon Studios, in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Gray Pictures and Original Film.
Generation V has yet to be marked with a premiere date, but features a sizable cast including Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, Marco Pigossi, London Thor and Derek Luh, as well as Germann, Perdomo and Phillips. In the same way The boys and animated spin-off Boys Present: Devilish – both of which are streaming – the new live-action series marks the third show in the expanding franchise to land on Amazon.
