The worst movies you can watch on Amazon Prime right now – 24/7 Wall St.

Special report

The Omicron variant of the coronavirus may be on the back burner, but for much of the country, where winter isn’t over yet, February still means staying indoors as much as possible.

For viewers, this represents an opportunity to tap into the treasure trove of movie classics that can be streamed on Amazon Prime. These include cinematic landmarks such as ‘Wuthering Heights’, ‘Stagecoach’, ’12 Angry Men’, ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’ and ‘The Silence of the Lambs’.

Amazon Prime’s movie schedule is diverse and big – but not all of its offerings are Oscar-worthy, and unless you’re in love with their stars or are in the mood to watch something so bad that it might actually be enjoyable, there are plenty of movies streaming on the platform that are probably best left unseen. (If you prefer to look on the bright side, these are the best movies to stream on Amazon Prime this month.)

To determine the worst things to watch on Amazon Prime in February, 24/7 Tempo developed an index using average ratings on IMDban online movie database owned by Amazon, and a combination of Audience Scores and Tomatometer scores on rotten tomatoes, an online movie and TV review aggregator, which weights all ratings equally. We only considered movies streaming on Prime that had at least 5,000 audience votes on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes in February, and excluded documentaries. (Data on streaming availability, current to this month, is from the streaming guide Reelgoodand director and cast credits are from IMDb.)

The duds we found run the gamut – silly romantic comedies, grisly torture porn, remade epics, tacky comedies, dramas with unlikable characters and clunky dialogue, sequels that shouldn’t have been made… .

The actors playing in some of them, such as Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, Anne Hathaway, Goldie Hawn and Christian Bale, all have Oscars on their CVs, but might prefer to forget about their appearances in the films listed here. The same goes for action stars such as Bruce Willis, Zoe Saldana, Liam Neeson and Jason Statham. (Willis is just one of TV stars who made a successful leap into film.)
