I have always been a great perfume girl. I love the cute little bottles and how they look clustered on a tray above my dresser, I love spritzing a perfume in the morning and immediately feeling a bit more put together and seductive, and I love grabbing a whiff of a favorite scent when throwing over a denim jacket from a previous night. Fragrances just make me happy, okay?!
That said, I’m well aware that my habit of buying perfume isn’t the most financially sound. Sure, full-size perfume bottles last for years, but they can be so expensive and often go unmarked when beauty retailers or department stores hold sales. Plus, there’s always the risk of shelling out $200 on a specific scent only to grow tired of it over time or associate it with a time in your life you don’t want to remember. (The power of scent and memory is real, y’all!)
So when I found a dupe scent for one of my favorite scents that would save me literally hundreds of dollars, I knew I had to pick it up (and share it with you all, of course!). Keep reading to learn about the best new way to shop for 100% guilt-free perfume.
My favorite perfume
My all time favorite scent is Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum, a fragrance I discovered in early 2020 when an influencer couldn’t help but rave about it. This perfume is definitely not cheap, but I was able to find a discounted bottle on Poshmark. As soon as it arrived in the mail, I was hooked. I get so many compliments every time I wear this perfume, which happens quite often. The scent is musky and woody with a floral component. It can definitely be worn every day, but I like to save it for nights out at my favorite fancy places in New York or put some on before dinner dates.
After nearly two and a half years, the bottle I purchased is dwindling. I went to Amazon to see if there were any deals to be found and ended up finding what really is the next best thing: a travel size roll-on perfume which mimics that exact scent and is only $7.99.
People. When I tell you that I added this perfume to my cart in the most hasty way possible, I am not exaggerating at all. The fact that I found a replica of my favorite candle scent for the same price as a sandwich at my local grocery store is just crazy to me. Also, since the roller bottle is small, I can easily store it in my makeup bag whether I’m at home or traveling. And this perfume smells then good and exactly like the real thing. Just read the Amazon reviews if you don’t believe me!
Since placing this order, I have purchased two more affordable roller scents: one that mimics Lab Sandalwood 33which is another one of my all-time favorites, and is meant to look like The Mojave Ghost of Byredo. Both are fabulous and I can’t resist wearing them.
Whether you’re a fragrance addict yourself, have a best friend who loves a $$$ scent but can’t swing to buy her the real thing, or you’re looking to stock up on travel goodies, you are welcome. Can’t wait to try even more scents after using these three, that’s for sure. Happy vaping!
Perfume dupes to buy now
This is the dupe of Baccarat Rouge that I will never get tired of. The scent is woodsy and sexy, and while I happily wear it year-round, it’s more of a fall or winter scent. Personally, I’m drawn to milder scents during the warmer months. Spray it on before your next date or before heading to the theater.
Anyone (especially in New York where I live) will tell you that Le Labo’s Santal 33 is an absolute classic, so if you’re new to the world of perfume, this is a great dupe to try because it really mimics a timeless scent. Santal 33 is known for being a unisex scent, and it’s the one I constantly smell while walking the streets of Soho – seriously, I can smell puffs of it a few feet away from me! The scent tends to linger and has scents of sandalwood and leather.
Mojave Ghost (or this dupe) is perfect for summer, if you ask me. It’s great if you love flowers but don’t want to smell like you stepped out of a Bath and Body Works circa 2005. As with the other scents highlighted above, a little goes a long way!
Every woman should try Chanel No. 5 perfume at least once – or even just be fooled! This scent is actually a bit soapy and wasn’t as sweet as I expected when I first tried it. For me the scent is nice and fresh but not as sultry as the more musky choices.
